About

I am a preacher, teacher, and writer.  I am the husband of Nancy to whom I have been married since June, 1979.  I am the father of Stefanie Johnson (her husband is Eric and they have one

daughter, Donna Ezri, and one son, Ever Alcott), Christopher Wheat (his wife is Melanie and they have one daughter, Robyn Michelle) and Ian Wheat (his wife is Brittany and they have one son, Owen Isaiah, and one daughter, Zoey Jane).  We live in Waco, Texas, where we have served the Lake Shore Drive Church of Christ since August, 2012.

Aside from reading, writing, preaching and teaching, I enjoy watching good movies with my wife, playing with my grandkids, travelling, woodworking and (believe it or not) yarncrafting.

I studied Industrial Technology Education and Bible at Abilene Christian University, graduating with a BS degree in 1981.  I returned to ACU in 1985 and did graduate work in Bible, completing a MS degree in 1987.  While serving as Missionary-in-Residence at Freed-Hardeman University in 2011-2012, I resumed work toward a Master of Divinity degree (which I hope to complete before my 85th birthday…)

We worked in Zimbabwe as missionaries two different times – 1981-1984 and 1992-1996.  Stefanie was born during our first stay, and all of our kids learned to feel “at home” in Africa during our second stay.  Nancy grew up in Zimbabwe; her parents, Loy and Donna Mitchell, worked as missionaries there from 1958 to 1976 and from 1985 to 1997.  While we have no plans to return to the mission field, it could be said that our African experiences have helped to shape our outlook and interests.
